Time: December
Location: Crystal Hall ballroom
Event Type: ball

The Rector's Ball is a unique opportunity to travel back in time and feel part of other epochs, because everyone is dancing waltzes, quadrilles, polonaise as well as dances from the ragtime era: Foxtrot, Quickstep ... Gentlemen are dressed in tailcoats and uniforms, and ladies in dresses of various models and colors: some in dresses of the XIX century, some in more tight and structured dresses from the beginning of the XX century.
The first Rector's Ball was held in 2013, but the tradition began in 1974, when the University held the first New Year's ball.
For the Rector's Ball many NSU students, faculty and staff x prepare in advance. More than 200 people for over six weeks learn and rehearse dance movements and figures to take part in as many program acts as possible. But even if you do not attend the rehearsals and do not know how to dance, you can learn on the spot, some dance school representatives train the guests, quickly and simply explaining the movements.
The Ball consists of two parts: historical dances, ball games, master classes and free dances accompanied by contemporary compositions performed by musical groups. University teams such as the historical dance studio "Medieval’", the NSU school of ballroom dancing "Sigma", a violin ensemble and a vocal NSU studio as well as invited dance and music ensembles perform exhibition performances.
During the ceremony the Rector hands over letters of appreciation for achievements in social and cultural activities.
The Ball offers live music, dancing games, a fabulous, festive atmosphere and a unique sense of unity: here as nowhere else, you feel that NSU is one big happy family.
