Scientific Engineering of Oil and Gas Systems

Description

The Program will prepare highly qualified specialists ready to meet modern research and development challenges and to solve game-changing problems in the exploration, prospecting and development of hydrocarbon deposits. This is related to the fast progress in oil and gas sciences and constant appearance of new methods and knowledge-intensive technologies. Therefore, there is a demand for specialists with good knowledge of physics and mathematics. The program is meant for students with a basic education in mathematics and physics.

The graduates will be world-class qualified specialists, with high tech job opportunities in Russian and foreign production and service companies and research centers.

The program also includes a research project. The work on the projects is constructed accordingly: the themes of the graduation theses are connected to actual problems, which have been proposed by partner production enterprises. While working on projects the students will obtain skills in working in a group, and experience in intercating with specialists from production enterprises and research organizations. There are internship opportunitiés in companies. At the end of the Program, students defend their Master's Degree thesis.

Program structure

The integrated approach includes basic courses in geology, geophysical research methods, and high-tech studies of natural oil and gas systems, including petroleum engineering, rock physics, seismological and basin modeling, processing and interpretation of seismic and well data, etc. They include not only the study of theory, but also practical lessons in analysis of real geophysical data using modern software. Some courses will be given by experts from the specialized R&D center at one of the largest oil and gas production companies in Russia – Gazpromneft R&D.
