In today’s high-tech digital world, the significance of mathematics is constantly growing. The future–not to mention the present–of our country depends on the level of mathematical research and mathematical education.
The Mathematical Center in Akademgorodok (MCA) is one of the four mathematical scientific centers created within the framework of the national project "Science". The MCA was created and functions as a consortium of structural subdivisions of the Sobolev Institute of Mathematics, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SB RAS) and Novosibirsk State University. The initiator of the MCA’s creation and its current director is Evgeny P. Vdovin–a doctor of physics and mathematics and a RAS professor.
In accordance with the guidance produced by the national project "Science", the MCA’s goals are:
- Ensuring the Russian Federation’s leading position among the top five countries engaged in research and development in mathematics and related fields. - Ensuring Siberia’s appeal to leading Russian and foreign scientists and promising young researchers.
- Integration of Russian mathematical research into the world scientific community by creating an infrastructure of international scientific, technical, and innovative technological cooperation.
- Providing an advanced level of fundamental and applied research in mathematics and related fields.
- Development of the personnel potential of Siberia in the field of research and development by promoting the professional growth of young researchers, university, and school teachers in the field of mathematics, as well as personnel development in the area of research management.
