The laboratory aims to study interdisciplinary issues of sign theory. Special attention is paid to the theory of the sign, as well as to the branches of semiotics: linguistics, semiotics of culture and semiotics of law. The emphasis is on interdisciplinary semiotics as the basis of scientific research, which makes the research results relevant for a wide range of experts.

Currently, active research in the field of semiotics is being done abroad and in Russia. The activities of specialists in semiotics are coordinated by such organizations as the International Association for semiotic studies, The Royal society of Canada, Semiotic society of America, etc.
