The activity of the laboratory is dedicated to the participation in the ATLAS experiment on the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) of the European Centre for High Energy Physics (CERN).

ATLAS detector is a unique installation of 45 meters in length and 25 meters in diameter, weighing 7,000 tons, worth more than $ 500 million, it contains more than 100 million channels of electronics. 3000 physicists from 175 institutions and universities in 38 countries maintain the operability of the installation and perform data analysis.

Since 2010, data at record energies of proton collisions is being collected. Unique features make it possible to conduct the analysis of a variety of physical processes, which allows not only to refine the parameters of the Standard Model (the modern theory that describes the microcosm organization and is currently in good agreement with a vast array of experimental data), but also to search for new particles and interactions (supersymmetric particles including candidates for the role of "dark matter" particles, heavy vector bosons and neutrinos, extra dimensions of space, etc.).

The spectrum of the laboratory activity is very wide. It is involved in analyzing physical processes, in particular in the group to search for and study the properties of the Higgs boson (discovered by ATLAS and CMS collaborations in 2012) in the decay channel into four leptons, as well as the search for right-polarized vector bosons and heavy neutrinos in the group to find so called "exotic physics."

Work is underway to support and develop the software for:
  •  QC of physical data (including on-line regime when collecting statistics) and electronic calibration data of detector systems;
  •  Modelling the electromagnetic calorimeter using liquid argon (whose electrode structure has a very complex shape resembling an accordion) in the GEANT4 program;
  •  Distributed processing and data storage in the GRID system (thousands of tasks simultaneously and running 24-7 on powerful computer clusters distributed throughout the world, the amount of data is tens of petabytes);
  •  The system administration of ATLAS central computers, support of multiple services and databases.
Laboratory staff is involved in the experiment to study the liquid argon calorimeter performance under high loads and in the development of new electronics for digital signal processing of the electromagnetic calorimeter trigger.
