The main focus of the laboratory is to study the properties of heavy c- and b-quarks using the data obtained in the international experiment Belle. The experiment Belle is studying the processes of electron-positron annihilation in the Upsilon mesons energy region. Currently, it is the only experiment in the world carried out in the energy region. The laboratory staff are involved in the processing of recorded data, as well as in the formation of the further physical experimental program based on the results obtained.
Studying heavy c- and b-quarks interaction helps to better understand such fundamental properties of our universe, as the CP-parity violation, the absence of antimatter (in large scale). Also, perhaps, research in this area will help to understand the nature of so-called dark matter.
During 2014-2015, the laboratory staff involved in the international experiment Belle in Japan, gained important results in physics of heavy b-quarks. In particular, two new charged resonance states, designated as Zb, have been discovered and studied in detail. These resonance states include the quark-antiquark pair of heavy b-quarks.
The uniqueness of the detected resonance states is that unlike the standard quark-antiquark meson structure they contain at least four quarks. The existence of such structures does not contradict to the theory of interaction between quarks, however, theoretical calculations of their properties are extremely complex.
The results are of great interest to both theoreticians and experimentalists. The experimental study of such structures will help to better understand the dynamics of the multiquark systems interaction.
