The main activity of the sector is fundamental research in rarefied gas dynamics, chemical kinetics. The science topic of the sector is related to the studies of gas-phase kinetic processes, plasma-chemical reactions and clusters generation in supersonic jets of low density, including those activated by electron-beam plasma.
Experimental studies of the formation processes of supersonic cluster molecular beams and the initiation processes of chemical reactions in the clusters by low-energy electrons make up one of the research areas.
The results:
- The condensation process in a pulsed jet of argon and argon-monosilane mixture in a wide range of brake pressure and density of the background gas has been studied in experimental conditions. In addition to a number of silane (hydrogenated silicon) and argon clusters mixed argon-silane complexes have been discovered for the first time and the conditions for their formation in the stream have been determined;
- The process of clusters fragmentation by electron impact has been studied as well as the composition of the fragments; The analysis of the results for different mixtures has been obtained, the work has been carried out to build a model that describes the process of silicon-organic mixture condensation;
- A series of works on the direct comparison of pulsed and continuous flows characteristics has been conducted. The results allow to radically expand the range of braking pressures and instantaneous flux rates in generated supersonic jets at the same time the cost of gas-dynamic and plasma chemical experiments decreases hundred-fold (through saving examined gases, reducing operational costs, etc.);
- Plasma chemical conversion of methane when activating high-energy electron flow has been experimentally studied. Proposals to build a jet technological module for processing natural and associated gas into synthesis gas have been formulated;
- Mechanisms to accelerate the reaction in the electron beam initiation have been studied. New results on mechanisms of particles interaction in a complex multiphase flow containing clusters and charged particles in addition to neutral molecular components have been obtained. The value of such results can be defined not only by their novelty, but also by the prospects of their use in jet plasma chemical processing of hydrocarbons and other natural resources;
- Works have been conducted on the development of a method of thin layers of carbon spattering on the substrate in the jet plasma-chemical reactor;
- Regularities in the formation of binary van der Waals oxygen - isoprene complexes generated in a free supersonic jet have been experimentally investigated. A new experimental technique to significantly increase the sensitivity of the measuring equipment, and expand the range of the investigated masses has been developed.
