Novosibirsk State University Ranks In The Top 500 Out Of 19,788 Universities Worldwide

According to the 2022-23 edition of the Global 2000 list by the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR), Novosibirsk State University (NSU) ranks in the top 2.6% out of 19,788 universities and institutes worldwide. NSU World Rank is 496, Regional Rank (Europe) – 200, National Rank – 4 (after Lomonosov Moscow State University, P.N. Lebedev Physical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences and National Research Center «Kurchatov Institute»). 

CWUR uses seven objective and robust indicators grouped into four areas to rank 19,788 world’s universities:

  • Education, measured by the number of a university's alumni who have won major academic distinctions relative to the university's size (25%)

  • Employability, measured by the number of a university's alumni who have held top executive positions at the world's largest companies relative to the university's size (25%)

  • Faculty, measured by the number of faculty members who have won major academic distinctions (10%)

  • Research:

    • Research output, measured by the total number of research articles (10%)

    • High-quality publications, measured by the number of research articles appearing in top-tier journals (10%)

    • Influence, measured by the number of research articles appearing in highly-influential journals (10%)

    • Citations, measured by the number of highly-cited research articles (10%)

Besides NSU, there are 41 universities and institutes based in Russia, including Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (world rank - 528), Saint Petersburg University (550), National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (610), National Research University Higher School of Economics (808), Tomsk State University (824), Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (864), ITMO University (982) etc.
