The Big Mathematical Workshop has started at NSU

Deputy Governor of the Novosibirsk Region Irina Manuilova took part in the opening ceremony of the first satellite event of the Technoprom forum, the Big Mathematical Workshop, at NSU. The event is being held for the sixth time by the world-class mathematical center, the Mathematical Center in Akademgorodok, created on the basis of the consortium of the S.L. Sobolev Institute of Mathematics and Novosibirsk State University as part of the national project Science and Universities, and is in line with the objectives of the Decade of Science and Technology in the Russian Federation, initiated by the President of the Russian Federation.
At the opening of the project, Irina Manuilova wished the teams successful work together with industrial partners, noting that the development of integration processes in science, higher education and industry is one of the main objectives of the national project Science and Universities, and the Novosibirsk Region has everything necessary for this.
— Dear organizers, respected participants of the Big Mathematical Workshop, the Big Mathematical Workshop appeared in Akademgorodok for a reason – one of the strongest world mathematical schools is located here, and we should thank for this the founder of our Akademgorodok, Mikhail Alekseevich Lavrentyev, who in the distant fifties created a science center in Siberia, and, it must be said, he paid special attention to mathematics. And we see the result – the very same world-class Mathematical Center of Novosibirsk State University, which today is rightfully considered a leading center not only in Russia. I am glad that mathematics is regaining its greatness, its priority position among all sciences. The Big Mathematical Workshop is also an opportunity to solve practical problems that are given to you not only by scientific organizations, but also by business communities and enterprises. I am sure that the problems to which you will devote these two weeks will be of serious interest and, perhaps, for some of you will become a step into major scientific activity. I wish everyone success, serious progress and innovative solutions, non-standard decisions. Let this be the first step in the difficult, long and interesting path that you have chosen for yourself! — noted the Deputy Governor.
NSU Rector Mikhail Fedoruk, addressing the workshop participants, noted the achievements of the Mathematical Center in Akademgorodok.
— The Big Mathematical Workshop is a satellite event of the Technoprom forum and is in some sense a "highlight" - it was invented in Novosibirsk and has an international character, because guys fr om China take part in it. We are constantly expanding the boundaries of our mathematical workshop. Novosibirsk is certainly one of the capitals of mathematical education in the Russian Federation, and it is noticeable on the international background. I sincerely congratulate you on the beginning of the VI Big Mathematical Workshop! I wish you fruitful work on projects and a good time in the Novosibirsk Akademgorodok and in Novosibirsk as a whole, and, of course, health, happiness and good weather. Congratulations on the opening of the workshop! — noted Mikhail Petrovich, Rector of Novosibirsk State University.
Work at the Novosibirsk site will be organized within the framework of 30 research projects. Among them are the development of algorithms for automating the analysis of the strength of aircraft structures, portfolio optimization in the crypto market, optimization of the distribution of laboratory tests for a genetic laboratory, and others. More than 200 people from more than 20 cities will take part. Since 2024, an English-language section has been launched at BMM, within which mixed teams of students from Russia and abroad will work. More than 20 foreign students from Chinese universities will take part in it.
— The Big Mathematical Workshop continues to develop dynamically: the number of projects is growing and the geography of the sites is expanding. In 2025, the workshop will be held at four locations - in Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Maykop and, for the first time, in St. Petersburg at ITMO University. The projects are divided into six main areas (streams): some are devoted to fundamental mathematics, some to applied developments, and a separate educational stream is designed for novice researchers who take their first steps in mathematics and study its real applications. In addition, foreign students have been joining us for several years now, including colleagues from China: an international stream has been organized for them, wh ere all communication and work on projects is conducted in English, said Chermen Tsgoev, head of the Big Mathematical Workshop.
In the future, the workshop's projects are formalized in the form of scientific papers, grant applications, and become the basis for innovative products. Among the successful projects of the workshop over the years are a neurogame for the prevention of hyperactivity in children, a digital traffic laboratory for optimizing traffic light modes, and educational programs using game tools in teaching mathematics.
