From April 25 to 28, the School of Curators of the Big Mathematical Workshop (BMM) was held. This is an important stage in the preparation for the BMM. As part of the School, curators and organizers thought through the work of each thematic area of the Big Mathematical Workshop, discussed joint events, as well as the joint work of curators and Workshop participants at the site of Novosibirsk State University.
The Big Mathematical Workshop is an event wh ere teams of students, schoolchildren and teachers work on mathematical projects together with curators. Teams are offered to solve an interesting research, technological or methodological problem as part of their project. The problems come from customers - representatives of scientific organizations and industrial enterprises. The event consists of two weeks of intensive work, divided between each other by an intermodule.
Workshop participants work accompanied by curators and experts assigned to each project team. The role of the curator is to create conditions for productive teamwork on project tasks and to organize communication and team functioning.
In 2025, the first module of the Big Mathematical Workshop will be held from July 6 to 12, and the second from July 14 to 19. Work at the Big Mathematical Workshop will be carried out in person at several sites: in Novosibirsk at the Novosibirsk State University, in St. Petersburg at ITMO University, in Tomsk at Tomsk State University, in Maikop at Adyghe State University, and in Omsk at the Omsk branch of the Institute of Mathematics named after S. L. Soboleva.
Participants of the Workshop can be:
- senior school students (schoolchildren who are noted by curators as a result of their work in the Workshop can earn 5 points towards their total Unified State Exam score when applying to NSU);
- students (students who are noted by curators as a result of their work in the Workshop will receive certificates of participation in the Big Mathematical Workshop);
- young researchers, teachers/lecturers (for teachers and researchers with higher education, the Workshop will become a professional development program; upon successful completion, certificates of the established form will be issued).
