The Sobolev Institute of Mathematics held the conference “Women in Mathematics” (May 27–28, 2023, Novosibirsk, Russia), which was dedicated to the International Day of Women in Mathematics.
The International Day of Women in Mathematics was established in 2018 and is celebrated on May 12th. The date was chosen because May 12 is the birthday of Iranian-born mathematician Maryam Mirzakhani, the first woman to win the Fields Medal. After her death as a result of a serious illness in 2017, the Women's Committee of the Iranian Mathematical Society took the initiative to establish the International Day of Women in Mathematics in her honor. The initiative was supported in 2018 at the World Meeting of Women in Mathematics, which was held as part of the International Congress of Mathematicians in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).
The organizers of the conference "Women in Mathematics" are the Sobolev Institute of Mathematics, Novosibirsk State University and the Mathematical Center in Akademgorodok. The first Women in Mathematics conference was held on May 12, 2021, the second conference was held on June 6, 2022. Detailed information about these conferences can be found at:
