The International Conference on Geometric Analysis has finished

On October 23–29, 2022, the International Conference on Geometric Analysis, dedicated to the memory of Academician Yu. G. Reshetnyak, was hosted in Novosibirsk. The event was organized by the Mathematical Center in Akademgorodok and the Sobolev Institute of Mathematics SB RAS.

During the week, conference participants listened to 19 plenary and more than 50 section reports. Both well-known scientists and young researchers fr om all over Russia arrived: Vladivostok, Khabarovsk, Volgodonsk, Krasnoyarsk, Barnaul, Belgorod, Kemerovo, Tomsk, Moscow, Kazan, St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad, etc. Foreign participants spoke online.

At the conference, reports were made both on fundamental mathematics and applied areas. We note, for example, the reports of SibFU Professor Alexander A. Shlapunov on the application of Yuri Reshetnyak's ideas in cardiology, Professor of Moscow State University and MISIS Alexei A. Davydov on stable states of distributed populations during cyclic exploitation, and Professor of Moscow State University Vladimir A. Zorich on thermodynamics and geometry.

Abstracts, presentations and videos of reports can be found on the conference website https://sites.google.com/view/conf-ga-2022 and on the "Geometric analysis" Youtube channel.

Yuri G. Reshetnyak is an outstanding scientist of world renown, a generally recognized scientific authority in the field of geometry, the theory of quasi-conformal analysis and the theory of Sobolev spaces, the creator of the well-known Siberian School of Analysis and Geometry, which unites dozens of doctors and candidates of sciences.

It is difficult to overestimate the contribution of Yu. G. Reshetnyak to the training and education of scientific students. He devoted many years to the Department of Mathematics and Mechanics of Novosibirsk State University, wh ere he headed the Chair of Mathematical Analysis for more than half a century. The selfless activity of Yu. G. Reshetnyak in setting up and improving the modern course of mathematical analysis to a large extent contributed to the formation of a holistic concept of education. The result of his pedagogical activity was the multi-volume "Course of Mathematical Analysis", completed in 1999–2001. Now these books form the basis of the professional education of a mathematician at any university in the world.

Collectives of the Sobolev Institute of Mathematics of the Siberian branch of RAS and Novosibirsk State University are proud that Yu. G. Reshetnyak worked on these statements from the day they were founded and wrote almost all of his significant works in Novosibirsk. His legendary capacity for work, breadth of outlook that transcends the narrow boundaries of professional specialization, is a worthy example, which many generations of employees and students are equal to.

The personality of Yuri Grigorievich unites many people involved in science and education. Mathematics is a living science and without personal communication it is impossible to exchange new knowledge in various areas of mathematics. Such conferences are necessary both for established scientists and for young people who are just starting their way in science. “I support the expressed wishes to make such meetings regular”, said the chairman of the organizing committee of the conference, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Chief Researcher of the Institute of Mathematics of the SB RAS, professor of DMM Sergey K. Vodopyanov at the closing of the conference.
