A. A. Novikov (Mathematical Center in Akademgorodok and "Grid Dynamics") gave open lectures on machine learning. The lectures provided a brief overview of the methods and main tasks: what is learning with a teacher and without a teacher, what is embedding, what is artificial neural networks and network architectures can be. More sophisticated teaching methods were also considered: reinforcement learning, competitive learning, transfer learning, and the use of twin networks.

Growth points where machine learning is applied today include medicine, finance and risk management, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, decision-making automation, advertising, marketing, public relations and other areas. Today, on some fronts, the industry has even merged with the academic environment. Sometimes the industry understands an area better (like marketing and customer service) because they just have more relevant data from that area.
