Sergey S. Goncharov (director of Sobolev Institute of Mathematics SB RAS, a leading scientist of the Mathematical Center in Akademgorodok, head of the Chair of Discrete Mathematics and Informatics of the Mathematics and Mechanics Department and Specialized Educational and Scientific Center of NSU) was rewarded with the
Order of Honour award for his great contribution to the development of science and long-term conscientious work.
The recipients of the Order of Honor are citizens who have high achievements in government, economic, scientific, sociocultural, public, sport and charitable activities, as well as in the field of training highly qualified personnel, educating the younger generation, maintaining the rule of law and order, which made it possible to significantly improve the living standards of the public.
This award is far from the first for Sergey Goncharov. He was also awarded
the Lenin Komsomol Prize in the field of science and technology for a series of works on constructive Boolean algebras (1976),
the Order of Friendship (2003), the Prize of the Government of the Russian Federation in the field of education (2010), the title "Honored Worker of Higher School of the Russian Federation" (2008), is a laureate of the Prize of the Lavrentev Foundation in the nomination "For Outstanding Contribution to the Development of Research in Mathematics, Mechanics and Applied Physics" (2017).
Sergey Goncharov is an outstanding Russian scientist, an expert in the theory of algorithms, model theory, mathematical logic, algebra and their applications in computer science. He is the author of over 250 scientific publications. More than 30 theses of Candidate of Sciences were defended under the leadership of Sergey Goncharov ten students became Doctors of Sciences. Sergey Goncharov is also the President of the Siberian Mathematical Society, member of the International Expert Council of the Mathematical Center in Akademgorodok.
Sergey Goncharov graduated from the Mathematics and Mechanics Department of NSU in 1973 and began teaching at the department: for over 45 years he has been giving lecture courses, directing educational and scientific seminars at NSU and the Institute of Mathematics SB RAS. From 1996 to 2011, Sergey Goncharov headed the Department of Mechanics and Mathematics and inspired both students and employees with his example.
