Leading researcher of the scientific group "Geometric analysis and its applications" Yuri L. Sachkov and Elena F. Sachkova will read a mini-course at the MCA

From September 1 to September 30, the leading researcher of the group "Geometric analysis and its applications" Yuri L. Sachkov and Elena F. Sachkova will visit the Mathematical Center in Akademgorodok. The main purpose of their visit is to read a course of lectures "Sub-Rimanian geometry by methods of optimal control" on geometric control theory and applications. Lectures will be held 2 times a week — every Tuesday and Friday (from September 3) from 16:20 to 18:00 in the room 4117 of NSU. There will also be a Zoom broadcast at https://zoom.us/j/92368543454?pwd=UlJEVitwRFJ2YTVyNXZ3ZmZhRjlydz09 (Conference ID: 923 6854 3454, password: 926790).

The course of lectures is designed for senior students (3–4 year and master's degree), graduate students and specialists in geometric control theory, sub-Riemannian geometry and their applications.

The main topics of the course:
  • General information about optimal control theory
  • Sub-Riemannian structures and shortest paths
  • Existence of sub-Riemannian shortest paths
  • Pontryagin's maximum principle for sub-Riemannian problems (with proof)
  • Optimality conditions for sub-Riemannian problems
  • Sub-Riemannian problem on the Heisenberg group
  • Sub-Riemannian problem on the group of motions of the plane
  • Sub-Riemannian problem on the Engel group
  • Sub-Riemannian problem with a growth vector (2, 3, 5, 8) and its applications to modeling beams
