NSU Top 10% MosIUR-2023 Ranking of World Universities

The Moscow International University Ranking “Three Missions of the University” (MosIUR) 2023 was published. According to the results of the expert assessment, Novosibirsk State University is 197th in the world ranking. This is an increase of 8 positions overall and the University went from 7th to 6th place among Russian universities compared to last year. This rating recognizes NSU as the best regional university in Russia. The ranking presents 2,000 universities from 112 countries making it the most representative in the world according to that parameter.

Dmitry Grishankov, CEO of the Association of Rating Compilers, provided more details about the rating,

Wide access to quality higher education is a key condition for the country’s competitiveness. In terms of accessibility to quality education (number of students in universities participating in the ranking per 100 thousand population), Russia ranks 8th among countries with a population of more than 50 million people. And Russia ranks fifth in the world in the export of educational services. Today, Russian universities account for over 5% of foreign students studying at the top 2000 universities in the world. There are 3.7 million foreign students in these universities and Russian universities are educating 186,000 students. Only the UK (14%), USA (13%), Australia (8%), and Germany (7%) have more.

Background: The Moscow International University Ranking is a new academic rating system that evaluates all three key missions of a university: education, science, and interaction with society. The methodology was developing with the help of extensive public discussion. More than 200 Russian universities took part in the development and improvement of the methodology and the international expert council included 25 renowned specialists from 16 countries.

To compile the ranking, objective criteria approved by international experts are used and surveys on reputation are excluded. The range of information sources for the rating is much wider than those traditionally used in existing popular rankings. The creation of the rating was initiated by the Russian Union of Rectors in accordance with the instructions of the President of Russia V.V. Putin.
