Novosibirsk State University has improved its position in the QS World University "Petroleum Engineering" Subject Ranking. In 2023, it was ranked in the 51-100 category, this year it rose to 50th place. QS analyzed more than 1,100 educational organizations around the world to compile this subject ranking
The "Petroleum Engineering" subject rating was based on four factors: academic reputation (40%), reputation with employers (30%), citation rate (15%), and the scientometric indicator H-Index (Hirsch index; 15%). NSU showed the most significant progress in academic reputation (based on a survey of global and Russian academic community representatives) and the Hirsch index (a scientometric indicator based on the number of publications and citations).
NSU is actively positioning itself not only as a leading educational center, but also a scientific and technological center. One of the University’s leading fields is oil and gas. Recently, NSU received patents for technologies and solutions that can increase oil production and reduce the cost of servicing oil wells. Among the developments is a software and hardware complex for express diagnostics of pipeline transport structures technical condition. Leading players in the oil and gas industry are showing interest in these technologies.
Since 2018, NSU has been operating the Gazprom Neft-NSU Scientific and Educational Center that is developing and conducting successful joint research and scientific projects. NSU’s “Geological and Geophysical” and “Mechanics and Mathematics” Departments have Master's Programs that train specialists in the field of petroleum engineering. In addition, NSU is implementing the strategic Scientific Engineering project as part of the Priority 2030 Program. An important component of this is the creation of a single digital platform for geological survey and development of oil and gas fields.
