NSU InteRussia Internship Program for Foreign Engineers

The InteRussia internship program for foreign engineering specialists took place June 2- 27 at Novosibirsk State University. 17 students from 14 countries (Chile, Jordan, India, Pakistan, Brazil, Albania, Serbia, Bangladesh, Turkmenistan, Belarus, Indonesia, Ecuador, Uzbekistan, and Tanzania) came to Akademgorodok to participate. This was NSU’s first experience conducting such a long event with the participation of young researchers from different countries.

The internship was organized by the Gorchakov Fund, SB RAS, and ANO "Mezhdunarodniki" with support from the Directorate of the World Youth Festival and the Presidential Grants Fund. For a month, young researchers received training at the University in two promising fields: "Artificial Intelligence and Medicine" and "Modern Quantum and Information Technologies in Electronics and Photonics". The training ended with participants presenting their scientific projects.

Evgeny Pavlovsky, Head of the Laboratory of Stream Data Analytics and Machine Learning at the NSU Mechanics and Mathematics Department and Head of the Artificial Intelligence and Medicine Section noted,

This year, the Program results were amazing. In four weeks, the participants managed to develop good projects in two different areas. The first project was on segmenting a brain tumor based on MRI images. The students conducted a small study and tested different artificial intelligence neural network models to solve the problem. They managed to obtain a fairly high result, which will be used for subsequent joint work and writing a scientific article. The second project was an application for doctors who can use the model developed within the framework of the first project.

InteRussia participants thanked the organizers and noted the friendly atmosphere that developed during the internship. They also expressed confidence that they will continue their interactions and joint research work.
