NSU in Top 100 of QS World University Rankings by Subject 2021

The QS World University Rankings by Subject 2021 was just published. Novosibirsk State University was ranked in 18 subjects in four academic spheres. For the sixth year in a row, Novosibirsk University is included in the top 100 subject ranking for Physics and Astronomy and for the fourth year in the top 100 for Natural Sciences. NSU is also included in the top 100 by subject ranking in Petroleum Engineering that was added to the QS ratings in 2021. NSU Mathematics was ranks 108. Since 2016, Mathematics has been in the 101-150 group without a specific ranking. For four years, NSU Chemical Engineering ranks in the 151-200 group in the world and #1 in Russia. Archeology has also ranked in the 151-200 group for two years. Chemistry and Biology also maintained their rankings for two years in the 201–250 and 251–300 groups, respectively.

Mikhail Fedoruk, Rector of Novosibirsk State University, commented on the rankings,

In 2019-2020, we launched a number of important projects, the results of which are important not for the ratings, but for the development of the University in the next few years. Some of the key areas of development have been institutionalized through the creation of a world-class Mathematical Center, institutes of genetic and chemical technologies, and centers for photonics and new materials. Within these new institutions, which are consortia of the University and SB RAS research organizations, scientists and academics are working in breakthrough scientific fields and new educational projects are being launched.

The QS World University Subject Rankings have been published annually since 2011. It ranks the world's leading universities in 51 subject areas. Assessments and rankings are based on four criteria: the opinion of the academic reputation, reputation among employers, research citations per paper, and the Hirsch index.
