In comparison with the results of the same ranking published in 2015 Novosibirsk State University improved its position in three disciplines. The university moved from the group of 101-150 to the top 100 (51-100) in Physics and Astronomy. It also moved from the group of 251-300 to the level of 201-250 in Modern Languages. In Information Technologies it jumped up by 50 positions in the ranking and now it is in the range of 301-350 points. In Mathematics and Chemistry Novosibirsk State University saved the same position as last year. In Mathematics it is in the group of 101-150 and in Chemistry it is in the group of 251-300.
This year according to the QS Ranking by Subject Novosibirsk State University entered the top 100 universities in the world for the first time in Physics. Indeed, the graduates of the Physics Department at NSU work around the world and they are known among the world sсientific society. Thus, two graduates of the Physics Department at NSU were among the scientists discovered gravitational waves. However, it is no less pleasant that with four areas of training, including the humanitarian field, NSU takes a worthy position in the top 200-350. I am sure that the resources allocated to the University within the "5-100" project will allow to improve further the educational and scientific components of NSU. It will help our university to grow subsequently in the world rankings - says the rector of Novosibirsk State University Mikhail Fedoruk.
The sixth edition of the World University Ranking by Subject contains 42 disciplines. According to the ranking the universities were evaluated by four criteria: global surveys of academics and employers, research citations per paper and h-index, which assesses research impact.
The QS-2016 Ranking by Subject has included seventeen Russian universities altogether in 28 subject areas.
