Kim Il Sung University, the leading university in the DPRK, is exploring the possibility of opening a representative office in Akademgorodok. Currently, the leadership of Novosibirsk State University, the Presidium of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the Novosibirsk Akademgorodok Science and Technology Park are actively discussing organizational issues and looking for a potential representative office location.
A representative office would strengthen scientific and educational ties between North Korea and Russia, create a platform for joint research and exchange of experiences in various fields of science and technology, and attract the attention of students and scientists in the DPRK to the educational opportunities offered by Novosibirsk. Cooperation may include developing joint research programs, organizing student and faculty exchanges, and holding scientific conferences and seminars. This will create additional opportunities for the internationalization of education in both countries and improve the level of scientific research.
Evgeny Sagaydak, Head of the NSU Education Export Department, explained,
The visit of the Kim Il Sung University delegation to Novosibirsk took place at the end of January 2025. During meetings, the Rectors of Novosibirsk State University and Kim Il Sung University expressed confidence that the establishment of a representative office would be an important step towards the development of bilateral relations in science and education. They also emphasized the importance of interaction with international partners to solve urgent scientific and technological problems facing society.
A Kim Il Sung University delegation will participate in the international youth festival Interweek, which will be held at NSU at the end of April. This will facilitate an exchange of experience and knowledge between schoolchildren and teachers and demonstrate an interest in establishing closer academic ties between the two countries.
