Novosibirsk State University launched a new course "Cryptography: Boolean Functions and Related Problems" on the Coursera educational platform. The Course is for English speakers interested in encryption algorithms and methods who have advanced mathematical knowledge. You can register and start training now.
Natalya Tokareva, Associate Professor at the NSU Departments of Information Technology and Mathematics and Mechanics and Head of the Cryptographic Center Novosibirsk, described the Course,
There are quite a lot of cryptography courses including introductory and basic courses. Our course is characterized by starting with simple basics and moving quickly on to modern problems of cryptography. This helps students take their first steps in scientific cryptography and achieve new results. In a nutshell, the goal of our course is to convert an amateur cryptographer into a researcher. We also support this goal by hosting the annual NSUCRYPTO International Cryptography Olympiad and conducting the “Cryptography and Information Security” summer school.
The Coursera course consists of five modules. Students will learn the most modern cryptography methods, how to use different types of Boolean functions to create reliable ciphers, what problems they may encounter and how to deal with them. In addition to NSU experts, the Course was designed by Stepan Picek, Associate Professor Ph.D., from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands (# 50 in QS World University Rankings).
The Cryptography course is the fourth English language course on Coursera created by Novosibirsk State University. Students can also take the other courses, “From Disease to Genes and Back”, “Dermatology: Trip to Skin”, and “MOOC: How to make a MOOC?”.

Online courses in English are a good way to introduce NSU’s English-language programs to the global educational market. The University is already sharing best practices and knowledge with the Coursera global audience. Our English-language courses in the medical and natural sciences have received a very good response. The course “Cryptography: Boolean Functions and Related Problems” is another step in this direction. A world-class mathematical center was created in Akademgorodok as part of the national project “Science” in 2019. This new course will let the English-speaking audience know about one of the Center’s important activities.
