At a recent NSU meeting, Kanseitula Tuimebayev, Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Mikhail Fedoruk, Rector of NSU, and Igor Kim, Head of the NSU Endowment Fund, created a joint group. The purpose of the group is to explore the possibilities of opening an NSU branch in Kazakhstan as a public-private partnership. This would be the first public-private University partnership in Russia.
A lot of preparatory work has already been conducted by representatives of the Al-Farabi KNU and the NSU Alumni Association in Kazakhstan. This includes compiling a list of natural science and interdisciplinary subject areas at NSU that may be of interest to Kazakh students. Representatives of the two Universities also signed a 5 year agreement to extend cooperation in the educational, scientific, and cultural spheres until 2029.
The University Rectors noted that in the near future, the main focus will be on cooperation in the field of science and will include joint developments. Interaction in the educational sphere will also be strengthened. In order to achieve these goals, the parties agreed to prepare a roadmap for the development and expansion of cooperation between the two Universities.
Currently, NSU cooperates with 16 leading universities in Kazakhstan, six of them in the field of IT technologies. 180 students from Kazakhstan are studying at Novosibirsk State University, primarily in the Natural Sciences Department, the Humanities Institute, and the Institute of Medicine and Medical Technologies.
