NSU Visited by Delegation from Myanmar Republic

A delegation from the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, headed by Prime Minister Min Aung Hlaing, visited Novosibirsk State University. The purpose of the visit was to discuss the prospects for future cooperation attracting students from Myanmar to NSU’s Master's and postgraduate programs. The guests were told the history of the creation of NSU and Akademgorodok, had a tour of the Scientific and Educational Center "Evolution of the Earth", and the academic buildings including the classrooms of NSU Department of Geology and Geophysics that are equipped with modern equipment for training specialists.  

NSU Rector Mikhail Fedoruk made a presentation about the University and the prospects for foreign students, 

There is a fairly wide range of Master's programs available for foreign students from artificial intelligence and big data processing to fundamental problems of geology and geophysics. Of particular interest is our English-speaking specialist program in medicine. We accept about 40 foreign freshman students a year, primarily from the Middle East and Africa.

Irina Manuilova, Deputy Governor of the Novosibirsk Region, explained that NSU students have relationships with scientific institutes in the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Many who do not go into science become founders of high-tech companies. 

She added,

The University today has its own Transfer and Technology Center, Technopark. We will be happy to welcome your undergraduate and graduate students and have all the necessary conditions to accommodate them.

Prime Minister Min Aung Hlaing, was especially interested in NSU’s Research and Education Center “Evolution of the Earth” and noted,

There are a lot of promising areas for research in this sphere in Myanmar, we need human resources. Russia is a strategic partner for us, therefore, on July 1, I signed an order for a visa-free regime for citizens of the Russian Federation. 

At the end of the visit, Myanmar specialists were invited to participate in the Technoprom International Scientific and Technological Forum that will be held in August.
