NSU and Heilongjiang University Sign 10 Year Cooperative Agreement

On April 28, a 10-year cooperative agreement was signed between Novosibirsk State University (NSU) and Heilongjiang University (HU). The ceremony was held via videoconference. After greeting those present, each side made a speech marking the event,

Sergey Fedorchuk, Novosibirsk Region Minister of Education,

Russia and China are good neighbors. We are united by thousands of years of history. We live in peace and friendship and treat each other honestly. We are reliable partners and are engaged in strategic interactions. In 2019, an agreement on cooperation in the field of education was signed between the Novosibirsk Region Ministry of Education and the Heilongjiang Longmei Education Corporation. Novosibirsk State University, one of the best National Research Universities in the Russian Federation, is actively cooperating with our Chinese partners. 

Background:
Since 2011, NSU and Heilongjiang University have been participating in a pilot educational project to implement joint educational programs for the preparation of Bachelors, Masters and Postgraduate students in the areas of chemistry, biology, physics, mathematics, economics, and law. To support this objective, Heilongjiang University established the Chinese-Russian Institute. Student admission for the first year is done on the basis of a PRC national entrance examination to higher educational institutions. NSU teachers participating in the project teach Chinese students in China and Russia in Russian.

1115 undergraduate students and 75 Master's students have successfully completed their studies at the Chinese-Russian Institute. Another 577 students were sent to study at NSU for one year on the basis of state scholarships. Currently, over 700 Chinese students are studying in 12 joint educational programs, 120 of them are studying at NSU.

HU Rector Fu Hongang described the results,

This is a landmark event in the history of cooperation between our universities. Many graduates of the Chinese-Russian Institute work at central state enterprises and in foreign institutions. They have become important professionals supporting the exchange and cooperation between China and Russia in various fields. The joint training of specialists between XU and NSU through the establishment of the Sino-Russian Institute provides a strategic guarantee for the development of the Sino-Russian partnership.

NSU Rector Mikhail Fedoruk focused on the fact that Novosibirsk State University is one of the country's leading universities in training highly qualified personnel for science and high-tech business and Heilongjiang University is one of the best universities in China in the field of teaching languages, especially Russian and Chinese. «We are confident that providing a variety of educational opportunities for the younger generation is a priority in the face of the global challenges of our time and we are grateful to all our colleagues from Heilongjiang University who took part in the project and are ready to develop it in the future». 

Earlier Novosibirsk State University entered the top 500 out of 19,788 universities and research institutes in the world, ranking 496 in the world and 4th in Russia
