On November 10, Novosibirsk State University and Chongqing University (a leading national university located in one of three Chinese federal cities) signed an agreement to establish a joint center for fundamental sciences. The main objective of the center will be to coordinate and establish scientific exchanges between the two universities in the fields of mathematics and physics. A joint educational program in physics that will award a double degree from the Chinese and Russian universities will also be created.
Evgeniy Sagaydak, Head of the NSU Education Export Department, provided some background,
We are very pleased with these results since we have been working to establish close ties with Chongqing University, one of the strongest Chinese universities in the natural sciences, for a long time. In addition to cooperation in the scientific field, we will also work in the field of education. We have submitted an application to the PRC Ministry of Education to create a joint educational program in physics. The plan is for undergraduate students to study for three years at Chongqing University and then come to NSU for one year. Upon completion, graduates receive two diplomas. Training in a joint Master's Program is also planned.
Igor Marchuk, Dean of the NSU Mechanics and Mathematics Department, added,
Cooperation in the field of science involves working on grants, conducting joint research in mathematics, mechanics, and physics including experimental research. This work will be based at Chongqing University, which has modern infrastructure and laboratories that are equipped with advanced, world-class equipment.
The new joint physics educational program with Chongqing University will start next academic year. The first class will have 90 students.
NSU currently has several joint educational programs with Chinese universities. In 2011, a joint Chinese-Russian Institute was established with Heilongjiang University. 900 Chinese students are studying in Natural Sciences Bachelor's, Master's and Postgraduate programs at the two universities. In 2022, Bachelor's programs in Mathematics and Mechatronics and Robotics were launched with the North China Electric Power University. Joint Bachelors programs in the humanities have been conducted with Xinjiang University for 10 years. Joint winter and summer schools are held annually with Xinjiang, Northwestern Polytechnical, and North China Electric Power Universities.
