Novosibirsk State University is discussing the possibility of opening a full-time Biomedical Preparatory Department in Cairo or Alexandria Egypt by the end of 2025 in partnership with Rossotrudnichestvo and an Egyptian recruiting company. The goal is to provide a stable flow of foreign students and increase the number of students studying in the medical field. A preliminary agreement on opening the department was reached during the mid-March Open Day of Novosibirsk Region Universities that was held at NSU.
The University also plans to increase the number of students in the English-language program at the NSU Department of Medicine and Psychology by attracting students from India.
Evgeniy Sagaydak, Head of the NSU Education Export Department, explained,
In 2024, we had 30 foreign students enrolled in the medica field and most of them were from Iran. This year, our goal is to double the number by attracting students from India and Egypt. The opening of the Preparatory Department in Egypt and the expansion of other programs for international students continues to support NSU’s strategic goal to internationalize education and strengthen the University's position in the global educational arena.
The selection of foreign students for the medical program will require: registering an applicant's personal account with the submission of the necessary documents for admission to the University, an online exam in chemistry, and an interview to verify knowledge of English. In addition, there will be informational sessions and webinars for applicants to explain in detail the requirements for applicants, as well as introduce them to the curriculum and life at the University.
The University medical program will continue to develop actively in the coming years. In 2024, the NSU Institute of Medicine and Medical Technologies (IMMT) was established together with a new Pharmacy and Medical Cybernetics Department. A building for the new NSU Institute of Medical Technologies educational and scientific center is being completed. This will provide the modern infrastructure necessary to train medical students including equipped laboratories, workshops, and simulation training centers.
The Open Day of Novosibirsk Region Universities is a traditional event that has been conducted for several years now. This was an initiative of Novosibirsk State University with the support of the regional Ministry of Education. This year, the event was held at NSU and the number of companies participating doubled to 12. The geography also expanded with representatives from North African countries, Arab countries including Egypt, India, Pakistan, China, and countries in Southeast Asia.
