The International Youth Math Challenge (IYMC) is a prestigious competition that provides students with an opportunity to test their knowledge in mathematics and become part of the global young mathematicians community. IYMC is an annual competition coordinated by Edu.Harbour from Heidelberg, Germany. Since its inception in 2018, the Competition has attracted over 30,000 participants from around the world.
5,280 students competed this year. Alam Md Mustaqim Bin, a second-year student at the NSU Physics Department from Bangladesh, finished among the top 8% of participants and won a silver award. He also won the second-degree national award.
Alam Md Mustaqim Bin described the Competition,
The main objective of IYMC is to create an innovative platform for students to learn mathematics and develop problem solving skills. The final round is highly competitive and participants have to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in a time-limited online exam. I am interested in astrophysics and astronomy as well as in mathematics, so this was my second time participating in IYMC. The online competition consists of three stages: selection, pre-final, and final. All stages are monitored using proctoring, a special monitoring system for online exams.
The Competition requires solving typical mathematical problems and analyzing scientific papers.
Alam Md Mustaqim Bin continued,
In 2020, I represented Bangladesh and won a bronze award. This year, I won silver and second in the national award. It is a great honor for me to represent NSU and I am proud to be a student at this University.
At NSU, Mathematics is not just numbers and formulas, it is a way of thinking. It helps to understand not only the laws of physics, but also many phenomena in life. The University is proud to congratulate the winner!
