NSU Student from Bangladesh Wins Silver in International Astronomy and Astrophysics Competition

1st-year NSU Physics Department student from Bangladesh, Alam Md Mustaqim Bin, won silver for the Russian delegation at the International Astronomy and Astrophysics Competition IAAC-2024. This victory came after passing three rounds of competition: qualification, pre-final, and final.

 IAAC was organized by the German Edu.Harbour Committee. More than 14,500 students from all over the world participated. The qualification round consisted of 5 astronomy problems with varying topics and complexities. Each problem awarded up to 5 points (25 points in total). In the pre-final round, the participants solved 6 problems: 2 basic problems worth 4 points each, 2 complex problems worth 6 points, and 2 research problems worth 8 points.

 Alam Md Mustaqim Bin talked about his victory,

— My main interest is astronomy and this was not my first competition. I was a national medalist at the Bangladesh Astronomy Olympiad in high school. I participated in IAAC-2024 to demonstrate my abilities and successfully represent NSU at international competitions. In addition, I work as an official ambassador of IAAC. In the last round, I scored 18 out of 20 points and received silver! I am happy with my achievements and that I represented NSU.
