Novosibirsk State University maintained its high positions in the Interfax TOP 10 ranking of the best Russian universities in Russia, taking 7th place overall. In the "Education" category, it entered the TOP-5 and in the "Cooperation" category NSU rose to 2nd position. Along with NSU, the list of leaders includes Moscow State University, MEPhI, MIPT, HSE, St. Petersburg State University, Tomsk State University, Kazan Federal University, People’s Friendship University of Russia, and MISiS.
The Interfax rating is based on the categories Education (20%), Research (20%), Social Environment (15%), Cooperation (15%), Innovation and Entrepreneurship (15%), and Brand (15%). The first eight universities, including NSU, did not change their positions in the overall rating this year, which indicates fairly high competition within the top ten.
Novosibirsk State University has significantly advanced according to almost all criteria. NSU jumped forward in innovation and entrepreneurship from 35th in 2023 to 15th place in 2024. In 2023, NSU registered more than 140 results for intellectual activity (patents, copyright, and know-how) and more than tripled the number of patent applications in 2024. The University is also expanding its list of industrial partners to include Russian Railways, UEC, SBER, Rosatom, Gazpromneft, Tatneft, El6, En+ Group, Siberian Generating Company, Rostelecom, and others.
The University recently opened 9 new student laboratories that conduct research in various fields including functional diagnostics of low-dimensional structures for nanoelectronics, structural and functional organization of the genome, new biomedical technologies, and processing and analysis of seismic data.
The NSU Startup Studio is a success. In the 2023-2024 academic year, more than 40 student projects received funding and three projects were winners in the Academpark A:START spring business accelerator.
The University took 10th place in “Social Environment” after placing 16th in 2023 and in “Education” it rose from 10th to 5th place. The University is developing dynamically and offers a wide range of popular areas of study and advanced programs from biotechnology and IT to business and oil and gas engineering. Overall, NSU implements more than 130 higher education programs (Bachelor's, Master's, Postgraduate and Residency). Last year, the average competition for NSU was 5.5 people per place, the maximum was 50 applicants per place.
In the "Cooperation" category (internationalization), NSU ranks 2nd (in 2023 it was 4th). Currently, NSU has 110 partner universities in 19 countries and 1,700 foreign students from 57 countries study at the University. NSU is actively involved in the export of Russian education including organizing seminars with recruiting companies from different countries. One of the major projects for the 2023-2024 academic year was the "Presentation of Russian Universities in China" that involved 43 Russian universities and more than 3,500 Chinese schoolchildren.
With regard to research, NSU rose from 8th to 7th place. The University is a participant in the federal program for strategic academic leadership "Priority 2030". Within this framework, NSU is implementing a number of projects in advanced scientific fields such as radiation technologies of the future, artificial intelligence, and scientific engineering. NSU scientists conduct research in promising areas and actively publish, including in foreign scientific journals.
