Leading Moscow universities at the top of the list are HSE, MIPT, Lomonosov Moscow State University, Bauman Moscow State Technical University, and RANEPA.

The ranking is based on a database that includes three thousand startups and three and a half thousand founders. The 2025 ranking evaluated universities on a point scale that took into account the effectiveness of graduates in creating both local and foreign startups. In 2025, the database of local startups (headquartered in Russia), that was created in 2015, reached 859 companies. These projects were founded by 1103 entrepreneurs representing 280 Russian universities. The database of foreign startups is based on Crunchbase and includes 2078 companies and 2357 entrepreneurs.

Mikhail Fedoruk, NSU Rector and Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, commented,

Novosibirsk State University’s development strategy envisages a transition to a model scientific and technological university by 2036. This model means that along with education and science, technology will be the University’s primary activity. To achieve this, we pay special attention to the development of student technological entrepreneurship. We are forming an effective support ecosystem at the University – from the birth of an idea to its transformation into a mature business. NSU has a Startup Studio, an acceleration program catalyst, a campus course on technological entrepreneurship, and the option to defend a graduation theses in the format of a startup as a diploma project. This year we were one of the winners in the federal competition for the development of university startup studios. This will make it possible to expand our opportunities in this area.
