Landscaping Begins for New NSU Campus

Work has begun landscaping the territory for the first stage NSU world-class campus facilities. This stage includes a new academic building and leisure center for the NSU Scientific Research Center as well as two new dormitories for 690 students. The construction of road surfaces for highways and parking lots has already been completed with the first layer of asphalt and the installation of curbs. Overall, the facilities are 60% completed.

Vadim Vasiliev, Minister of Science and Innovation Policy Novosibirsk Region, emphasized,

The role of universities in the socio-economic development of the regions today has increased significantly. The new formats proposed by the Ministry of Education and Science, the Priority 2030 strategic academic leadership program and the campus creation project, significantly accelerate the process of integrating universities into the territorial economies. Currently, in the Novosibirsk Region, stages one and two of the construction of the World-Class Campus of Novosibirsk State University (NSU) Project are being implemented. This includes the creation of six infrastructure facilities improving the educational and research activities of the University, as well as activities related to providing students with a specialized educational and scientific University Center (NSU SSC) with dorm rooms. The Regional government supports this project and sees its implementation as of particular importance for the development of not only Akademgorodok, but the entire region.

The construction of second-stage facilities is progressing ahead of schedule. Work has begun on the installation of stained-glass windows and a ventilated façade in the classroom building, finishing work on the ground floor has begun, and temporary heating fr om an autonomous boiler room has been connected. In the research center building, work has begun installing monolithic reinforced concrete walls on the 1st floor.

Mikhail Fedoruk, Rector of Novosibirsk State University, commented,

The new NSU campus is an important element in the implementation of the University’s long-term strategy, which involves strengthening its role as an integrator shaping the priorities of the scientific agenda in the following areas: science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine. This is an expansion of our educational capabilities, including the opening of new educational programs. Also, the new campus provides an expansion of the range of high-tech technologies research and development together with industrial partners in areas that play a key role ensuring the technological sovereignty of the country.

As part of the second stage, the construction of the Institute of Medicine and Psychology Educational and Scientific Center is underway. The project was presented at the Golden Valley scientific and production forum in early November. Currently, work has begun on the installation of monolithic reinforced concrete walls on the 3rd floor.

With the commissioning of the new Center, NSU will launch training in two new specialties, pharmaceuticals and medical cybernetics. A number of new laboratories will also be created at the Center wh ere research will be conducted in the field of molecular virology, medicinal chemistry, neuroscience, cellular technology, and other promising areas of medicine.

The implementation of the campus project is divided into several stages. The construction of the first stage is supported by a donor while stage two is financed within the framework of the National Project “Science and Universities”. The total area of the facilities being created is almost 80 thousand sq.m. The first stage of construction will be completed in the first half of 2024, the second stage will be done in the third quarter of 2025.
