The grand opening of the VI International Historical School took place on September 25 in the Novosibirsk Regional Administration Building. This is the first year the School was such a large-scale event attracting more than 150 undergraduate and graduate students. Participants represented 73 higher educational institutions fr om 39 cities and 34 countries including Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Algeria, India, Iran, China, and Serbia. The event was organized by the Russian Historical Society, the Russian Federation Ministry of Science and Higher Education, and Novosibirsk State University.
Sergei Naryshkin, Chairman of the Russian Historical Society, noted in his video message to the participants,
One of the objectives of the International Historical Schools is to form communities of graduates. Therefore, I hope that after completing your educational program you will maintain an interest in Russian history and culture and continue your contact with Russian colleagues. I also encourage you to continue to implement your personnel historical and educational projects.
The International Historical School took place at Novosibirsk State University. The program was divided into five thematic areas: Asian Russia at the crossroads of world cultures (Antiquity, Middle Ages, Modern and Contemporary times), current issues related to studying and preserving historical memory, Russian experience in political and socio-economic transformations (XIX-XX centuries), the Russian literary heritage, urbanism and urban everyday life in the USSR, and science cities and the development of scientific potential.
27 scientists and teachers from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Tyumen, Omsk, Tomsk, Novosibirsk, Barnaul, Ulan-Ude, and Yakutsk gave lectures to School participants. The lecturers included one Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 15 Doctors, and 11 Candidates of Science.

I hope this School will not just be an interesting event for you, but a real school, a place wh ere you will make new acquaintances, gain knowledge, and create your own research, scientific, and educational projects. I am sure that your stay at NSU and Akademgorodok will be unforgettable and you will want to come again, to study and, perhaps, to live.
The qualitative result of the school will be the development and testing by participants of innovative projects in the field of historical knowledge and the development of international academic cooperation. The best participant projects will be presented in public and reviewed by a competition commission chaired by the NSU Rector. The authors of the winning project will receive a diploma and prizes and be eligible to apply for a scholarship from the History of the Fatherland Foundation.
