Young journalists and editors from leading Russian mass media outlets gathered at the NSU Media Forum

Novosibirsk State University hosted the International Youth Media Forum for the XIX Youth and Students World Festival. Students from different Russian regions had an opportunity to learn from the masters of modern journalism and discuss the future of media. Over 100 young, Russian professionals and students who are interested in journalism, PR, SMM and the blogosphere took part in the Forum.  They will be covering events at the upcoming XIX Youth and Students World Festival and become the nucleus of the youth media center at the Festival. Representatives of leading Russian media holdings, large companies and the best universities in Russia including  Lenta.ru, Russia Today, Rambler & Co, Lentach, Odnoklassniki, WEB-Regata, MIA Russia Today,"Izvestia", VK.COM, "Publishing House" and "Komsomolskaya Pravda" attended the Forum.

The participants of the forum were greeted by the rector of the NSU Mikhail Fedoruk, “It is very pleasant and an honor that Novosibirsk State University was selected to be the venue for the International Media Forum. Our university is famous for its strong journalism school and its students and graduates are often winners of  student TEFI awards (Russian Television) and other all-Russian and international competitions. We are sure the meetings with experts, some of whom are teachers and graduates of NSU, will be useful to you not only in covering the events of the Festival, but also later in  life. I congratulate everyone on the opening of the Media Forum!” 

The participants were also addressed by the Novosibirsk Region Minister of Regional Policy Dmitry Yakovlev, the Novosibirsk Region Federal Inspector Ilya Chernyshev and the Head of the Press Service for WFMS 2017 Anton Pashkov.

The event began with the introduction of the symbol for the XIX Youth and Students World Festival, the “Chamomile Festival”. Forum participants were divided into teams focusing on six spheres: Press, TV /Radio, Blogosphere, Social Media Marketing, Photography, and Graphic Design. Within each section there were lectures and discussions, master classes and case studies.  Students, together with experts, not only developed a general concept for positioning the XIX Festival in the media and social networks, but also discussed such topics as "Journalism for Robots", "Story Design and Visualization in Modern Media", "Social Media Marketing: Theory and Practice", and much more.

The XIX Youth and Students World Festival will be held from October 14-22, 2017 in Sochi. The Festival has been held since 1947, the primary organizer is traditionally the World Federation of Democratic Youth. Throughout its existence, the Festival has been hosted by Hungary, Finland, Cuba, South Africa, Germany, Ecuador, etc.  It has taken place twice in Russia, in 1957 and 1985 and both times it was in Moscow.  20 thousand people from 150 countries are expected to take part in the XIX Festival in Sochi.  The event will include discussions, an extensive cultural program, sports competitions, master classes, seminars as well as other activities that are planned.
