Novosibirsk State University received a license for their new Master's Program "Industrial Pharmacy". It is the first educational program of this kind beyond the Urals. A network educational program, NSU will implement the Program jointly with the Engineering School at Moscow State University and industrial partner companies "Generium", "Pharmstandard", and "Medico-Biological Union". The first 20 students will matriculate in September 2025.
The Program will be based at the new NSU campus, that was built as part of the "Youth and Children" National Project. “Industrial Pharmacy” will combine the fundamental scientific knowledge of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences with the three industrial partners industrial experience. Students will also receive practical training at Moscow State University and Sechenov University.
Mikhail Khvostov, Acting Dean of the Pharmacy and Medical Cybernetics Department at the NSU Institute of Medicine and Medical Technologies (IMMT), provided more details,
The IMMT educational and scientific center and NSU scientific research center buildings, that are part of the second stage of the new campus construction, will house both educational sites and pilot industrial production facilities for various products including pharmaceutical. This makes it possible for young specialists to receive and practice their skills in a licensed production facility located on campus. We will be the only university beyond the Urals to provide such an opportunity.
Bachelors of natural sciences and medical fields will be eligible for the Program where they will have the possibility to receive education in two tracks. The first is pharmaceutical development. In this track students receive training in the fundamental disciplines and participate in special courses that provide additional knowledge so they will develop the skills necessary to conduct pharmaceutical research. The second track is biotechnology and the production of high-tech drugs, primarily gene therapy and those based on human somatic cells. There are only a few of these specialists in Russia today.
Khvostov emphasized,
There is a major shortage of personnel in the pharmaceutical industry, including research, expert analysis, and production. This new NSU Program will allow us to train professionals in areas that are currently actively developing in our country. Regenerative medicine and health preservation are important elements in the new National Project. Therefore, the demand for specialists working in this area will grow every year.
Master's students will also participate in the development of products that will be created as part of the Priority-2030 Program.
