NSU Conducts First All-Siberian Mathematics Olympiad for Schoolchildren in China

The 60 year-old All-Siberian Mathematics Olympiad for Schoolchildren was conducted in China for the first time. 180 high school graduates fr om cities in the Henan Province (Zhengzhou, Kaifeng, Yuncheng, Nanzhao and Luohe) came to test their knowledge. The Olympiad winners and finalists were awarded benefits that provide them with full Russian budget scholarships or significant discounts on tuition to study at NSU.

Head of the NSU Education Export Department, Evgeny Sagaydak noted,

The choice of schools and province was not random. 1.3 million young people graduate annually from high schools in Henan Province and only 300 thousand have the opportunity to enter universities in China. Therefore, interest in studying in Russia is quite high. At the same time, Russian universities are just beginning to actively work in the cities of Henan Province, so this Region has great potential for NSU in terms of attracting applicants.

Six exemplary high schools in Henan Province, wh ere more than 40% of graduates enter universities in China, have received special status as centers for preparing graduates for admission to Novosibirsk State University. The administration of these schools will recommend studying at NSU to their graduates.

Currently, NSU has 1,700 foreign students, including 900 from China. In terms of the number of students and signed agreements, China is among the top 3 countries NSU is developing international cooperation.
