In October 2025, Novosibirsk State University, together with the Center for People's Diplomacy, held the first All-Siberian Mathematics Olympiad in French for schoolchildren in African countries: the Republic of Niger, the Republic of Guinea, and Burkina Faso. The Olympiad winners and prize-winners will receive preferential treatment when applying to NSU and they will either receive a scholarship from the Russian budget or significant tuition discounts.
The Olympiad was attended by over 200 high school students: 51 from the Republic of Niger, 68 from the Republic of Guinea, and 88 pupils from Burkina Faso. The development of cooperation with African countries is an important international development activity for NSU.
In 2024, NSU, together with the Center for People's Diplomacy, initiated the creation of a Consortium of Russian universities for cooperation with West African countries. This year, at the international forum on technological development "Technoprom," new projects were presented including an international program to prepare schoolchildren in Russian language, computer science and mathematics in Burkina Faso. Joint educational programs between Russia and West African countries at the secondary vocational education level were also presented. These included programs focused on the agricultural sector, construction industry, natural sciences, and technical specialties.
In the fall of 2024, the All-Siberian Mathematics Olympiad for schoolchildren was organized for the first time in China. 180 high school graduates from cities in Henan province: Zhengzhou, Kaifeng, Yuncheng, Nanzhao and Luohe tested their knowledge in that competition.
