Novosibirsk State University has received a license for a new educational program in "Medical Cybernetics". This is an interdisciplinary program that will train specialists working at the intersection of IT, medicine, and biology. The first 20 students will be admitted in September 2025 for a 6-year program. This is a network program implemented jointly with the Moscow State University Engineering School.
The infrastructure for training these new specialists is under construction as part of the new NSU Institute of Medicine and Medical Technologies educational and scientific center. The laboratories and workshops will have the most modern equipment. The program’s partners include Pharmstandard, Generium, and the Medical and Biological Union. This new specialty will provide applicants an opportunity to embark on promising projects at the intersection of NSU’s technical and biological skill sets that correspond to the Russian Federation Strategy for Scientific and Technological Development. In the course of their studies, future medical cyberneticists will be able to practice their skills and participate in the implementation of research projects aimed at solving urgent problems in healthcare and the pharmaceutical industry.
Mikhail Khvostov, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Medical Cybernetics at the NSU Institute of Medical and Technical Technologies, said
NSU medical cyberneticists will be distinguished by their fundamental training. Graduates of the program will be able to work in science, science-intensive medical and pharmaceutical production, and they will also be able to become diagnostic doctors. The pilot program recruitment will be 20 students and most of them will receive state funding. We do not plan to significantly increase the number of students since our objective is to train unique specialists that will be in demand by leading Russian biotechnological and pharmaceutical companies.
