NSU Conducts First Physics Olympiad for Schoolchildren in Africa and China

In December, NSU held the qualifying round for the first foreign "Your Path to Real Science" Physics Olympiad. 100 schoolchildren in Africa and China participated. The languages used varied so that in Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger the Olympiad language was French, in Guinea participants used English, and in China the language was Chinese. The Center for People's Diplomacy co-organized the Olympiad in Africa, and partners of Novosibirsk State University co-organized it in China.

NSU and the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences have been conducting the "Your Path to Real Science" Physics Olympiad for schoolchildren since 2019. The Olympiad is designed for students in grades 8-11 and was designed to identify an aptitude for physics by solving standard physics problems as well as unique evaluation problems and demonstration problems.

"Your Path to Real Science" is included on the list of the Russian Council of School Olympiads (RCSO) and was assigned a second level. Winning and placing in the Olympiad provides significant benefits when applying to NSU and other leading universities in Russia, including the possibility of admission without entrance exams.

The Olympiad has two stages. The first was a qualifying round in December and schoolchildren in Africa and China could choose to take part in person or remotely. The winners go on to the final stage that will be conducted in March in person at several venues including Novosibirsk State University.

Foreign winners and finalists will receive certain benefits if they apply for admission to NSU such as additional points for individual achievements and others established by the foreign citizen admission rules committee.
