NSU Announces New China-Russia Institute Dual Degree Programs

Novosibirsk State University and Heilongjiang University (Harbin) are strengthening their cooperation within the China-Russia Institute (CRI) framework. In 2026, they will launch new programs in four Bachelor's degree programs: chemistry, biology, mathematics, and robotics. The first-year enrollment will be 240 students. Upon completion of the new CRI programs, students will receive a dual degree with diplomas from Chinese and Russian universities. The implementation of this program will more than double the number of Chinese students at NSU. Currently, 700 people are studying at the Chinese-Russian Institute.

During the first year, that begins in September 2026, 60 students will be enrolled in each of the four major fields of study. By the CRI programs fourth year, 960 students will be studying in the program.

The Dual Degree program is based on the 3+1 educational system. That means students will study at Heilongjiang University for three years and at NSU for one year. It is expected that graduates of the Dual Degree Bachelor’s program will continue their education in a joint Master's Program. MA students will have two supervisors, one from Russia and one from China.

Background

The Chinese-Russian Institute was established in May 2011. It was one of 17 pilot institutes established during the reform of the national education system. CRI has introduced an innovative model for joint training between the two universities. It provides education in six specialties with an annual enrollment of 30 students in each subject area. Over 14 years, more than 1,600 students have graduated from the Institute with 865 receiving their Bachelor’s degree at NSU. 414 of these graduates continued their studies in Master's Programs abroad.
