NSU Among Top 3 Universities for Regional IT Training

ANO Digital Economy, with the support of the Association of Computer and Information Technology Enterprises and the Russian Ministry of Digital Development, presented a ranking of universities in the digital economy. Novosibirsk State University is among the top three universities that train personnel for IT technologies in the regions.

An important component of a high place in the rankings is the education quality, which is achieved through the use of proprietary programs and is confirmed by graduate employment statistics.

Professor Mikhail Lavrentiev, Dean of Information Technologies Department and Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, explained, “We don’t have a problem placing young specialists, our graduates are in demand. More than 90% of Master’s students are already working in different companies. After receiving their diplomas, graduates are confident and free to explore the labor market”. He also noted that the Department monitors the careers of its graduates, although due to the high mobility of IT specialists, this is not always possible long term. What is certain is the rapid career growth of graduates immediately after University and the high level of their salaries.

Another factor that influences the rating is that the University trains a wide range of specialists in the most dynamically developing IT areas including artificial intelligence systems, computer vision technologies, virtual and augmented reality.

Alexey Okunev, Director of the NSU Institute of Intelligent Robotics at NSU and Candidate of Chemical Sciences, provided more details,

Today, almost all NSU educational programs contain elements of artificial intelligence. The elements differ depending on the Department’s focus. For example, the Mechanics and Mathematics Department has a Bachelor's degree related to AI and two Master's programs in big data, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. In 2023, NSU created the Institute of Intelligent Robotics, which specializes in deep machine learning. The Physics, Information Technologies, Humanities, and Economics Departments have their own programs related to artificial intelligence since these technologies today are vital in a variety of spheres.
