Institute of Medicine and Medical Technologies NSU Opens New Laboratory

Innovative companies Papillon and SafeVision have signed a cooperative agreement with Novosibirsk State University. Their plans for 2025-2026 include opening a laboratory at the Institute of Medicine and Medical Technologies at NSU (IMMT NSU) that will combine developing new treatment methods using an innovative medical bed with developing a new Medical Decision Support System.

The laboratory will be located in the new IMMT NSU building that is among the second-stage of construction facilities for the modern NSU campus. This construction is supported by the National Project "Youth and Children".

The laboratory will be integrated into the "Medical Cybernetics" educational process. This is a new specialty that will matriculate its first students in September 2025. Students will participate in the company's production activities as part of their diploma projects. This work will develop new treatment methods, maximize the potential of medical equipment, and explore new AI approaches, computer vision, and machine learning for monitoring patients.

Mikhail Khvostov, Acting Dean of the Pharmacy and Medical Cybernetics Department at IMMT NSU, and Doctor of Biological Sciences, explained,

One of the medical cybernetics objectives is to create smart devices to interact with patients. It is very important that during the training process, students experience firsthand how these devices are created, and most importantly, take part in their development. Thanks to our cooperation with dynamically developing companies, I see great potential in both the educational and scientific fields for students in the new Medical Cybernetics training program at the IMMT NSU Pharmacy and Medical Cybernetics Department.
