NSU Conducts First Round of International Cryptography Olympiad “NSUCRYPTO-2018”
The individual round of NSUCRYPTO-2018 (International Cryptography Olympiad) will take place on October 14 in Akademgorodok. Schoolchildren, students and professionals fr om 38 countries have taken part in the Olympiad since it was established 4 years ago. This first round will begin at 16:00 Novosibirsk time. Participants will be divided into three categories “schoolchildren”, “students” and “professionals”.
During the first round, participants who have taken part in previous Olympiads will be able to solve problems in a familiar place. Those who want to come in person are invited to the Maltsevskaya Auditorium in NSU’s old main building on Pirogova Street. They should arrive by 15:30 in the foyer of the first floor wh ere they will be given printed copies of the problems and snacks. Competitors are allowed to solve the problems using anything they could use at home: laptops, tablets, books, etc.
However, it is not necessary to come to Novosibirsk to participate in NSUCRYPTO-2018. All you need is an Internet connection. This maximizes the geographic diversity of the participants. The event is open to anyone interested and there is no entry fee.
The second round will take place October 15-22. Participating teams of up to three people will have to solve more complex and challenging problems, including unsolved scientific problems.
For students interested in enrolling in NSU’s new English-language Master’s Program, “Master in Cryptography”, performing well at the Olympiad is considered an important achievement. The first students in this Program began their studies in September 2018. Students will learn about classic cryptography as well as about the newest, most relevant trends in modern cryptography. Seven highly respected foreign experts have been invited to give lectures.
Winners of the NSUCRYPTO Olympiad will receive valuable prizes: e-books, tablets, laptops, memory cards, cameras, books and much more.
