The General Sociology Division at the NSU Economics Department is conducting a sociological photography contest for students and post-graduates. Photo submissions will be accepted until October 31st and winners will be announced on November 14.
This is the second NSU sociological photography contest. The organizers explain that participation allows us to look at everyday objects from another perspective through photographs. The “Water” correspondent provided more details about the competition and how to participate.
The competition is open to students (bachelors, specialists, Masters) and postgraduates in all disciplines not only at NSU, but any university in another city! So, do not hesitate to invite friends to participate, wherever they live. For those students who study “sociology", participation in the competition will be useful honing their skills in visual analysis.
The photo competition helps us draw attention to the visual, rather than verbal, way of recording information and ... conveyance of meaning. Today, based on the number of accounts, Instagram is the second largest social network in the world. This is just one manifestation of the growing volume of visual information, and, in my opinion, the development of methodology for sociological analysis will be determined not only by working with big data, but also with visual data.
