NSU students won gold at the International Cryptography Competition

The results of the international cryptography Olympiad Non-Stop University CRYPTO, which took place in October 2023, have been summed up. NSU students took an active part in it.

In the individual round in the “students” category, a student of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics, Sergey Kurchev, received a second degree diploma. Third degree diplomas were received by students of the Faculty of Information Technologies and the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics - Nikolai Yakovlev, Konstantin Romanov and Sergei Kotov. They managed to successfully beat the representatives of Iran, Singapore and Vietnam. Roman Lebedev, a graduate student at FIT, was awarded a third degree diploma in the “professional” category in the first round. His opponents were strong participants from Germany and India.

Let us note the outstanding result of NSU MMF students - Alexander Bakharev, Rinchin Zapanov and Sergei Zinchenko, who took first place in the team round. Having scored a record number of points (60), the guys defeated teams from MIT and Cambridge (USA), Vietnam, Romania, Hungary, as well as strong teams from other Russian cities by a wide margin. And in the overall medal standings (in comparison with professionals), the team of our guys lost only to the professionals of the famous cryptographic laboratory COSIC from Belgium.

Two teams of NSU MMF students were awarded second degree diplomas: Alexander Bochkarev, Fedor Kobzev, Nikolai Matrokhin and Sergey Makogon, Semyon Kochetkov, Kirill Tretyakov, respectively. A third-degree diploma was awarded to a team of NSU MMF students consisting of Anvar Mukumov, Egor Plotnikov and Kirill Kirillov.

Non-Stop University CRYPTO is the only international cryptography Competition that brings together professionals, students and schoolchildren from all over the world. Anyone can take part in the Olympiad, regardless of geographic location. The official language of the Olympiad is English. The goal of the Olympiad is to attract young researchers to solve problems of modern cryptography. Every year the Olympiad is held online in two independent rounds: individual and team.

NSUCRYPTO is included in the list of international competitions, the number of student winners of which influences the university’s entry into the RAEX-100 ranking of the best universities in Russia. The program committee consists of specialists from Russia, the USA and a number of European countries who are experts in various fields of cryptography.

The organizers and partners of the Competition are the Cryptographic Center (Novosibirsk), Novosibirsk State University, International Mathematical Center in Akademgorodok, North-West Center for Mathematical Research named after Sofia Kovalevskaya, University of Leuven (Belgium), Southern Federal University, Belarusian State University, Tomsk State University , companies "Kryptonit", "Demlabs" and "Active".
