Novosibirsk State University launched their Siberian Summer Program "Business in Russia: Understanding and Surviving". Program participants are fr om Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, the United States, Venezuela, Indonesia and Russia. This is the first time the NSU Department of Economics has conducted this type of program designed primarily for foreign students.
The program is diverse and includes the following sessions:
· Economics: assesses the conditions and prospects for the Russian economy as a whole and at the regional level.
· Comparative Business and Economic Law: covers what people doing business in Russia can expect in the Russian legal system.
· Mosaic of Regional Cultures: this session will, of course, pay special attention to Siberia.
Elena Limanova, Deputy Dean of the NSU Economics Department, talked about the program,
It is impossible to ignore that global academic mobility is increasing. This can only be seen as a positive development since new places, new people, new attitudes provide an invaluable contribution to a person’s development and broadens the prospects for a life strategy. The pace of mobility is also growing. Very few people can afford to drop out of their financial and social environment for 2 or 4 years, especially when they do not know if the foreign educational program will be helpful for them. The fact that we are able to offer “academic tourists” an interesting and useful program and provide them with a taste of Siberia and NSU means that we are becoming more visible as an international university. The knowledge and impressions gained by the participants changes the perception of Russia, Siberia, and our University.
Organizers primarily targeted university students emphasizing the applied nature of the program. However, professionals considering opportunities to work in Russia were also invited to attend.
The participants will be presented with a large amount of material that is not available abroad and is unique in terms of the volume and quality that will be generated by the interactive discussions. In addition to knowledge and skills, the program will provide participants with another great plus, its interdisciplinary approach. The most interesting, complex ideas and solutions are born wh ere different views and disciplines have an opportunity to be explored.
