Mayevka-2017 – brought happy traditions to a new level

“InterWeek” at NSU  ended with the fifty-first Mayevka. Excitement about the event began several weeks before the gala concert when it was announced that the headlining group would be "Anacondaz".  Many young people said the appearance of that group was why Mayevka was so eagerly awaited this year and yet the area in front of the stage near the main building was filled with people when the first group began to play. Even the rain did not get in the way as it was seen as another tradition.  The concert included groups that are gaining popularity as well as already well-known performers in Siberia. Groups He called her Jen and X-Pipes cheered up the crowd before the Mayevka-2017 headliners.  At the last Mayevka, a folk-rock group performed before the headliners  so this year the audience included many fans who were waiting for them to play again.

NSU Rector Mikhail Fedoruk opened the Mayevka by addressing the audience, “We are opening the Mayevka for the 51st time. The political system in Russia has changed, the Soviet Union has long since disappeared and yet Mayevka still lives and continues to develop to this day. That is because it’s ideas are noble and humane, no to racism, no to xenophobia, no to nationalism! Long live Mayevka! Long live NSU!”

Novosibirsk Mayor Anatoly Lokot and the Novosibirsk Regional Education Minister Sergei Nelyubov also attended the opening ceremony. They mentioned the historical roots of Mayevka, stressing the importance of the concert for the cultural life of Novosibirsk State University and Novosibirsk as a whole.

The comedy group "Kvant" is a regular performer at the annual gala concert and once again they played parody songs already well known and loved by the audience. The topics they address have not become obsolete and the songs continue to be well received and close to the hearts of NSU students.  They actively involved the audience in the process with interaction and jokes in the spirit of the "Office of the Divan Brothers" (another comedy group). This entertained the audience while the next musical group set up their instruments and did a sound check. Best of all, they came up with the idea of an "open microphone" where anyone could sing a favorite song in front of thousands of people. This was proof that NSU students are talented at everything.

When the scene was taken over by "Anacodaz", an apple literally had nowhere to fall.  The people gathered so tightly that in the front there was no room for movement. Everyone joined the group reciting the hip hop texts during the top songs.

Kristina Uglova, a Sophomore at the NSU Humanitarian Institute said that last year she only managed to catch the final song so she decided to make sure this year she saw everything. Now her playlist has been replenished with the group MISSED and He called her Jen has a new fan!

The event ended with a festive fire around which people gathered quickly because during the evening the temperature dropped noticeably. And, as always the happy people joined hands for a circle dance around the fire.

Konstantin Gluzdakov, singer in the group He called her Jen expressed his thoughts, “We not only played for the first time at Mayevka, it was our first time attending the event. It was a pleasant, active audience that was easy to interact with. We happily spent this evening in Akademgorodok, it was good. I think our presence at Mayevka was enjoyed equally by us and the audience"

Ivan Moshn, one of the main organizers also shared his impressions, “The concert went well, the expectations were met for which we can thank the performers. It was a very bright and long day. As for who will be next year’s headliners, it's hard to say anything definite but we already have ideas.

That opinion is shared by the Director of the Center for Non-Academic Extra-Curricular Activities, Anita Golubeva, “The “InterWeek” events were successful.  That includes the All-Russia Forum "Russia – a place for a dialogue among peoples", the Contour map, and the International Arbat as well as other events.  Mayevka was the final bright event and, since this year it included real headliners, it was truly outstanding. "Anacondaz" really liked our Mayevka and are ready to come again.”

We can say with confidence that with such well known guests, Mayevka has reached a new level. There was something for everyone in relation to genre at the concert so it turned out to be quite intense.  Even lovers of crowd surfing did not miss their opportunity during both indie pop and rap artist performances. “InterWeek” is an important, emotionally filled event for the organizers and participants. As in previous years, the results were undoubtedly worth the effort and money.
