Scientists of Mathematical center in Akademgorodok presented their summary reports to the International Expert Council

At the end of this year, Mathematical center in Akademgorodok held a meeting of the International Expert Council, where the reports of the center's scientific groups on the results of their work in 2020 were presented.

Mathematical center in Akademgorodok was established in November 2019 as a result of a competitive grant selection held by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation in conjunction with the Council for state support for the creation and development of world-class mathematical centers. The center functions as a consortium of structural subdivisions of the Sobolev Institute of Mathematics SB RAS and Novosibirsk State University.

The activities of Mathematical center in Akademgorodok are primarily associated with scientific research. Every year the center holds an international competition for research projects, which are selected based on the results of an independent examination by the International Expert Council of the center.

Since the creation of Mathematical center in Akademgorodok and until the end of this year, the research of the Center was carried out in ten state-of-the-art areas of modern mathematics: digitalization of mathematical models and intelligent data processing systems, multidimensional analysis of computational complexity and provably optimal algorithms, optimal control theory, modern directions of theory probability and its applications, differential equations and dynamical systems, algebraic combinatorics and combinatorial algebra: theory and algorithms, geometric aspects of mathematical physics, algebraic-logical methods for solving problems of cryptography, universal algebraic geometry and machine learning, cryptography and information security, inverse problems of natural science.

One of the stated goals of the center is the integration of Russian mathematical research into world science, which is impossible without creating an infrastructure for international cooperation and coordination of research. Therefore, the scientific management of the activities of Mathematical center in Akademgorodok is carried out by the International Expert Council, whose functions include developing the priorities of the center's research policy, evaluating the work of scientific programs, making decisions on the practicability of continuing the research work begun, discussing and approving plans for the formation of new scientific projects of the center for the next calendar year.

At the moment, the International Expert Council of Mathematical center in Akademgorodok includes 13 leading Russian and foreign scientists who, by virtue of their knowledge and scientific experience, are able to assess the state and prospects for the development of mathematics. It is worth noting that this is not an easy task, since the mathematical sciences currently cover a huge number of areas, which not everyone, even a sufficiently experienced mathematician, is capable of assessing.

At the end of this year, on November 22 and 24, Mathematical center in Akademgorodok held a meeting of the International Expert Council, at which the heads of the current ten scientific areas of the Center presented reports on the results of their groups' activities in 2020. Presentations included the most important scientific results, publications in international peer-reviewed journals, organization of events (seminars and conferences), as well as an assessment of the contribution of the research carried out to world science (and not only mathematical, since many of the results can be applied in other areas).

The next time the International Expert Council of the center will meet in January 2021 in order to sum up the results of the competitive selection of research projects for the next year. To date, Mathematical center in Akademgorodok has received 13 applications, of which no more than ten will be supported.

Tomasz Pizanski, one of the members of the International Expert Council, Dean of the Faculty of Informatics and Information Technologies at Primorska University (Slovenia), President of the Slovenian Society of Discrete and Applied Mathematics, said:

I am impressed by the level of research carried out at Mathematical center in Akademgorodok.
